Individuals who the endorsing body can identify as a leader or potential leaders are eligible for the Global Talent visa. To be eligible you must be a leader or aspiring leader in one of the following:

  • Firstly you can be a leader in academia or research.
  • Additionally, you can be a leader in arts and culture.
  • Finally, you can be a leader in digital technology.

A Global Talent visa is an attractive choice as it can lead to settlement in 3 to 5 years and does not require a licensed sponsor. Therefore, this visa category is often preferable to the Skilled Worker route. Additional advantages to this route are that there is no cap on the number of visas that can be issued, there is no English language requirement, and dependants are permitted.

Endorsement from an Approved Body

Unless you hold a prize listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes, you will first need to apply for endorsement by an approved body.

The Global Talent endorsing bodies are:

  • Arts Council England
  • The British Academy
  • The Royal Academy of Engineering
  • The Royal Society
  • Tech Nation
  • UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)

The endorsing body will decide whether you are an individual with exceptional talent or exceptional promise. As a result, if your application is successful, you will receive an endorsement letter which allows you 3 months to make your visa application. If your application is refused, you may be able to request an endorsement review.

To make your visa application, you will need to show that you have been endorsed, you have a valid passport, and that you have had a TB test if required. Additionally, you will need to meet the suitability requirements in Part 9 of the Immigration Rules.

Global Talent Visa – Switching, Settlement, and Dependants

A Global Talent visa can be submitted from outside the UK, or from inside the UK if you already have valid leave to remain in certain categories. This visa category also allows dependants.

You can extend this visa multiple times, with each grant of leave for a maximum of 5 years. This category allows settlement after just 3 years in certain circumstances.
