What Causes Cerebral Palsy at Birth?
If there are problems during or shortly after the birth of your baby there is a chance that these problems could cause cerebral palsy. The problems might be caused by:
- Your baby’s brain temporarily not getting enough oxygen during a difficult birth
- Your baby suffering from a serious head injury during birth
- Your baby choking or nearly drowning, resulting in their brain not getting enough oxygen
We understand that it is devastating to watch your newborn suffer, and that if it leads to them having difficulties for the rest of their life then you deserve and need to receive compensation. If your baby has suffered from any of the above problems because of a medical professional’s mistake and as a result they have developed cerebral palsy, we can help you get compensated.
We can help you get compensated for your pain and suffering – as well as your baby’s – and for any financial losses you may have as a result of their condition. Children with cerebral palsy can need special care and equipment just to get by in day-to-day life, which is often very expensive. With our help you don’t have to worry about how you will pay for this. We can make sure that you receive what you need to be able to enjoy life with your baby as much as possible, without having the weight of financial stress on your shoulders.
Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
You might have had a difficult birth a little while ago and not realised that it may have affected your child for life. Symptoms of cerebral palsy will usually become noticeable during the first two to three years of your child’s life. If you’re concerned about your child’s health or development you should speak to your GP.
- Delays in reaching development milestones – for example, not sitting by eight months or not walking by 18 months
- Appearing too stiff or too floppy
- Having frequent muscle spasms
- Shaky hands
- Having weak arms or legs
- Walking on their tip-toes
- Making fidgety, jerky or clumsy movements
- Seeming to do random, uncontrolled movements
There are also many other signs and symptoms. Although we are specialist medical negligence solicitors, we aren’t doctors, so if you suspect that your child has cerebral palsy you should consult a medical practitioner for their expert opinion. We’d be happy to arrange this for you if you don’t feel like you can do it yourself.
Sometimes cerebral palsy only affects on side of the body, sometimes it only affects the legs, and other times it affects the whole body. Whichever type your child suffers from, if their condition developed as a result of a difficult birth and could have been prevented, then we want to help you.
You and your child deserve to have a bright future to look forward to, and that’s what we can help you achieve. With our help you can get the compensation you need to move forward.
We’re Here to Help You
