UK Visit and Short-Term Visa Fees
If you wish to visit the UK for a short period of time to visit, transfer through or study, you may need one of these short-term visas.
For short term visas the visa fees are generally less high, and application processes are likely relatively straight-forward.

Point-Based System - Tier 1: UK Visa Fees for Applications made Outside of the UK
If you wish to come to the UK for a longer period of time and you are applying as an entrepreneur, investor or under the exceptional talent category, you will probably need to apply for a Tier 1 visa.
As a Tier 1 visa holder you may also be allowed to be able to bring dependants to live with you in the UK. For each dependants' application the applicant will be required to pay a separate visa fee in addition to their own visa fee.

Point-Based System - Tier 2: UK Visa Fees for Applications made Outside of the UK
A Tier 2 visa is applicable for those who wish to come to the UK to work. UK visa fees for Tier 2 visa applications are significantly higher if you intend to stay in the UK for more than three years.
Depending on your situation you may need to apply for either an Intra-Company Transfer visa or a General Shortage Occupation visa.
Applying for a Tier 2 point based visa is generally slightly cheaper if you are applying from outside of the UK. For example, if you apply for a Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer for a period of less than three years the UK visa fee will be £610 for an overseas application and £704 for an application from within the UK, a nearly 15 percent difference.

Point-Based System Other Tiers: UK Visa Fees for Applications made Outside of the UK
If you wish to come to the UK to study for a longer period of time you are likely to need a Tier 4 General Student visa. UK visa fees for these types of visas is currently set at £348 per application.
The Tier 5 visa has been set up for Government Authorised Exchanges and temporary workers.

Leave to Remain Applications within the UK
If you intent to stay in the UK indefinitely and you are already in the UK on a different kind of visa you may need to apply for indefinite leave to remain. If you are granted indefinite leave to remain you can stay in the UK indefinitely and work or study without restriction.
Indefinite leave to remain is also known as permanent residency, and after being in the UK for a qualifying period on indefinite leave to remain you may be able to apply for British citizenship.
The application for indefinite leave to remain is complex and can be a lengthy process, causing the UK visa fees for this type of applications to be significantly higher than most other types of visas.

Points-Based System Tier 1- UK Visa Fees for Applications made in the UK
As with other visas, Tier 1 UK visa fees are considerably higher for applications made from within the UK. For example, the Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa application fee for an application within the UK is set at £1,277 while an application from outside of the UK would only cost £1,021, 20 percent less.
Tier 1 applications from within the UK allow dependants to be added to the application. UK visa fees for dependants are separate from the main applicants fees.

Points-Based System Tier 2- UK Visa Fees for Applications made in the UK
Tier 2 visas are suitable for those who wish to remain in the UK primarily for employment reasons.
You may be able to apply for an Intra-Company Transfer if you are originally employed by an employer in another country but are required to move to the UK to continue your work for this business.
If you are a skilled worker, capable and intending to take up occupation in a job that currently features on the UK shortage Occupation List then a Tier 2 General Shortage Occupation application might be appropriate.
